1. Nibbling on the wires means - пошевелить/поиграться (недословно) типа чтобы заработали
2. delicious - вкусно/восхитительно ))) )))))

That's great! blink.gif Now, try to explain that in plain English
1. To move/to play(not literally) sort of make it work...
2. Exceptionally tasteful, delicatessen.... bleh.gif hi.gif

Дед, Myglik, thanks for your explanation but I still can't understand how this words are related with the main idea of the text:
Oops! Looks like Frank's nibbling on the wires. Please try again in a few minutes. If you continue to get this error, let our Support team know. (Frank tells us the servers are delicious.)

The sentences appeared during cleaning my messages box in livejournal.
I guess that there is some error happened on the server. But who is this Frank? How servers can be delicious? blink.gif

No, I am not self-employed, but I work at a research clinic and my hours depend on how many studies we have going on at the moment, which, in its turn, depends on the sponsors. I guess with this recession pharmaceutical companies and other organizations don't have too much money to spend on testing new drugs.

Well, it seems to me that we have a play on words technique (also called a pun) here. To nibble also has a direct meaning of to take small bites. Do you see what I mean?

Yes, I see. I conjectured that there is something like you said. Thank you, Metanx!

But who is Frank? Why should I know this name if I am just usual lj-user. And what about delicious servers? sla.gif huh.gif

By server they probably mean a computer.
Server is also a synonym of waiter. I really hope, though, that it wasn't used in that sense shutup.gif
And I have no idea who Frank is (maybe he is some kind of a rodent that likes to eat wires biggrin2.gif ). Изменено пользователем Metanx

I believe self-employed is more of a general term.
And a freelancer is a person who, still being self-employed, can provide his/her services to different organizations without a long-term commitment (I think this term is used more often with journalists, programmers, editors etc.).
In the US the term independent contractor is also used. I am not really sure about all the minute differences that there are between all of them. You are probably better off consulting Google.

Does this word, looks "Russian" to you? blink.gif biggrin2.gif
Yes, of course we are using it. But that's not exactly synonym of "self-employed".
Although every freelancer are "self-employed", not every "self-employed" is a freelancer.... That's from my point of view... rolleyes.gif

The error message is a joke.
It gives us a humorous image of what could be causing the problem and avoids explaining anything.
Then again, would a technical explanation like "Our LDAP server is in an inconsistent state" be any more useful?

I know it's stupid but we really use this word exactly in this pronunciation without translation. yes.gif

Information about relationship between these words was very interesting for me. Thanks, guys! flowers1.gif Now I need to understand who am I - self-employed, freelancer or independent contractor. rolleyes.gif But last is more typical for technical specialists I suppose.

A joke? ohmy.gif: Oh, my... It wasn't funny. They almost break my brain. biggrin2.gif

Technical explanation is clearer. Most of the servers use technical terms and its normal (familiar) for most of the users.
I don't know meaning of ALL the technical words, abbreviations and all kinds of errors (like error 404 - page not found, for ex.) but I can understand the main idea of the "message". So I would prefer explanation without jokes. fegh.gif

Thank you, DBW! flowers1.gif

You could be all three in one...
BTW Here, in a States, "independent contractor", is generally used for construction, or transportation type of business. For example;-I'm self-employed independent contractor. And here is my "tool of trade" biggrin.gif
